It’s summer project time at Tara On Demand! Let’s get this digital home renovation started! You can press play to watch/listen to the podcast version of this post, or read on to get the written and visual scoop.
I’ve felt like we, the current version of TOD, have outgrown our digital home. For a while!
But I wasn’t sure what was going to take its place. Until recently, it was finally time to burn it all down (with love), and now we’re giving you a look at the website house renovation process. Welcome to the TOD Dream House Renovation Series!
The version of the TOD website (we’re allowing to die) came to be after a three-year period of big experimentation in online business and significant personal shifts. Now, nearly two years later, it’s hung out through *almost* my entire Saturn return in Pisces and a period of quiet stability.
The old website wasn’t bad, wrong, ugly, or not functional. It just wasn’t the best way to represent TOD anymore. It’s a new era: New layout. New vibe. New digital altar.
In the coming weeks, you’ll see it all unfold! In the meantime, our drag king construction crew is on the job! That means if you try to visit a page over the renovation that isn’t finished loading, these hotties will pop up!
Why? Because we’re building something truer, weirder, and more glittery than before! That means posting the team up as surreal, collaged drag kings and inviting you to watch the process, page by page!
I’ve been exploring and developing an increasingly, deeply intimate relationship with creativity over the past five-ish years. By default, I have become more familiar with creative cycles of life-death-life, too. I’m not always comfortable with them, but I can see myself in them. I’m out here observing and witnessing that.
As this relationship has grown, the way I approach work for clients has changed, too. As a team, we’ve leaned into the concept that each (personal) brand’s digital home is part of a digital neighbourhood. That these digital spaces we host and curate are creating community.
The mosaic that is inevitably created when content is posted—squares and rectangles on Instagram (or any social platform)—mirrors our home metaphor. Posts are building blocks of the digital home we’re consciously (or unconsciously) creating. The home is the structure. All the building blocks are their own individual, essential pieces. Ultimately, contributing to a larger picture.
I was unable to bring this vision to life until another piece of the project dropped in that opened the floodgates for everything else to come together: an Eris altar space that inspired the 12th House.
It’s a secret underworld, nighttime garden, Virgo 12th house blog space that will house digital altar spaces.
I frequently practice what I call Digital Divination… As opposed to writing in a journal: Analog Divination. At its core, it’s collecting, organizing, and sorting the processing that I’m doing in a singular digital space, and spaces within that space.
It’s reflecting, pulling, interpreting, and recording tarot card readings I do for myself… Exploring archetypes, journaling, and reviewing what exists in my Digital Divination Milanote board from the past. Phone Notes app notes get pulled into the fold here, too.
To bring it full circle, recently, I decided to create a new alter ego. I began doing so in my digital divination board for that day in Milanote.
It ended up evolving way beyond that and I created an Eris altar space.
Eris is the Greek goddess of chaos, disruption, and radical truth. In myth, she threw a golden apple inscribed “to the fairest”… into a wedding she wasn’t invited to (OOP! petty queen), sparking the rivalry that ultimately led to the Trojan War.
IRL, she’s also the cosmic troublemaker who got Pluto demoted. Eris is the dwarf planet whose discovery forced astronomers to redefine what counts as a planet (gagged!).
One thing you should know about me is: I fuck heavily with viewing women in myth through the lens of totality. Circe by Madeline Miller really wets my whistle!
The Eris Altar represents a devotional digital space for upheaval as initiation, honouring the sacred mess, the rejected parts, and the creative power born from disorder. It’s for laying flowers at the threshold and stepping through.
Like all digital divination boards before it, it was mainly a mess of text boxes, but I wanted to give it a visual theme and make it into a proper digital altar space to share it.
When I pulled the image inspo for it, the rest of the website pieces, beginning with The 12th House, poured in and came together. Then, the team and I got to work planning and bringing it to life.
This website update is creating and sharing art. These spaces are meant to be light and bright, fun and fancy, deep and winding. Cavernous, but also pink and covered in glitter! Get it?
Crafting the vision and bringing it together piece by piece has felt so playful (so far). I hope that visiting our new digital home encourages you to play and create, love and wonder, and most of all to dream!
Welcome to our digital:
💗 Barbie Dream House (maximalist adornment in action)
💘 Lover’s House (intimacy deliberately expressed)
🎀 Dopamine decor daydream (designed to delight)
The business-y pages are the daytime brand. Think: Persephone, goddess of spring, open-hearted and inviting. These pages are serving up digital homemaker, creative director, and strategic vision vibes. You’ll find warmth, hospitality, and beauty with structure in this house.
These parts of the website are the work we do. It greets guests at The Welcome Mat with clarity, care, and intentional design.
It’s a threshold. A trapdoor. A cosmic dressing room full of portals. Some of what you’ll find inside is sparkly, and some structured. Some of it is business, and some is sacred. All of it is deeply me.
The ‘other’ pages are Persephone too, but her Queen of the Underworld mask.
☀️ The Craft Room (you are here, now 📍 blog/podcast)
☀️ The Supply Cabinet (tools, templates, no-frills grounded support)
🌀 The Nail Studio (visual archive of adornment)
🌀 The 12th House (digital altar collection space)
Each page on the new TOD house website is a threshold, a portal, a place for play, creativity, and sometimes going to the bottom of the ocean. There’s no clear indication where play ends and business begins.
When you make art for a living, work and wonder blend together.
Every surreal and fantastical brick that built this website was intentionally crafted and placed. However, they are not a mirror of our ideal client.
Instead, they are a reflection of what it feels like to enter into a creative relationship with myself, the team, and TOD at large. We’re not interested in creating viral content, but we want to support you in hosting a digital home you’re overjoyed to invite your digital community into.
In our digital home, and yours, the house metaphor offers structure to allow creativity to flourish, to allow for play, to allow for new things to come through, and be created and presented. Social media is more than rectangular posts and 60-second videos. The space you’re hosting deserves to be poured over, loved on, built custom, curated with intention, and given care and attention.
When we take good care of our space, it takes care of us. This is what we offer to our clients. Therefore, it felt necessary to create something uniquely TOD, to curate our own digital home that reflects the level of service that we provide, and the level of care that is poured into the accounts we work on. Commitment, devotion, intimacy, and capital L Love go into this work.
The undercurrent of what’s happening here is Tower Energy.
We are making space for a new foundation through embodied destruction. We let the old website structure burn and fall while crafting something truer, with more glitter and with love.
The ‘Match My Freak’ collage illustration serves as the vehicle to share the spark.
It is intentional and stylized destruction. Made to clear the ground, and call to action those who want to be free. Who want to fill in the blank. Who want to be fully expressed, to be queer, to play, to not take it so seriously… And to love all versions of themself, through it all.
Sharing yourself and your work online is inherently exposing. But together, we’re looking directly at that discomfort, that fear, that unknown, knowing it can completely overwhelm and consume us, and choosing to show up as the truest version of ourselves that we know today, regardless.
The Tower lights up the night sky and attracts attention, leading me to ask our readers, “Who is gonna match my freak?”.
We gather here, we line up, but we are not weeping in this sunlit room. Like Taylor & crew during my tears ricohet @ the Eras tour, we’re just performing funeral!
We’re celebrating as we lay to rest the old website, and all of the versions of Business Barbie Tara, of TOD! There is love, care, and recognition present.
We honour all former clients, past contractors, collaborators, employees, or anyone else who has touched TOD in its different iterations and forms.
Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés says in the Faithful Gardener, “New seed is faithful. It comes on the wind whether you want it to or not, and it roots most deeply in places that are most empty.”
Cheers to building something new, and may this ground be blessed with rich ashes. Thank you for witnessing the creation of a truer, more beautiful representation of my own creative life and everything co-created with the team, with clients, with collaborators from it, in conjunction with it.
The match is lit, the new foundation is blessed, and the door is open! Welcome in! Join us this summer as we document the website home-reno in subsequent episodes, room by room.
